Adults 25+ are not required to take adult drivers ed, but many choose to take the online course with the included DPS test so they can avoid testing at DPS.
Teens complete the DPS permit test as part of their Texas Teen Drivers Ed Course. The test is included inside the first 6 hours of the program.

If you skip the course, you must take the written test in person at DPS.
