  • Minimum age for permit: 15
  • 24 hours of online classroom learning
  • First 6 hours required before applying for the permit
  • 44 hours of behind-the-wheel practice (30 practice + 14 instructional)
  • Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) requirement

FAQ's for Teens

Yes! It is fully TDLR-approved and accepted at all Texas DPS offices.


Yes, the full 24 hours of classroom instruction needed to fulfill state requirements are included.


Yes. If you choose our Self-Paced option, we can help you transfer to a local school for in-car lessons. While still possible with the Parent-Taught option, changing your mind after completing the parent-taught course will just require contacting us to request a transfer. No biggie!


The student has access to the course material for a full year. (12 months) Students can work at their own pace and have plenty of time to finish.

Course extensions are available if needed. Once a course has been extended, all of the student's course work will resume where they left off. 


  1. Submit Form DL-92 to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to receive your PTDE Program Guide ($20- This fee is required no matter what course you choose). This will verify that the parent or guardian is eligible to instruct.
  2. Complete 24 hours of online driver education. The required classroom hours for the teen course were reduced from 32 to 24 hour as of Dec. 1, 2024, as a result of House Bill 1560 (87th Legislature). 
  3. Complete 44 hours of behind-the-wheel practice with the registered parent/guardian teacher.
  4. Obtain your Certificate of Completion (Form DEE-964).
  5. Complete the free DPS Impact Texas Young Drivers course within 90 days of finishing the first 6 hours of the Parent-Taught course. (This is a prerequisite for the DPS road test.)
