Your teen completes the 24-hour online classroom with a state-approved instructor overseeing all grading and progress. Then, the instructor helps you transfer those hours to a local driving school of your choice to complete the required behind-the-wheel training.

How the Self-Paced Program Works

Step 1: Enroll in the Self-Paced Teen Drivers Ed Course

Your teen begins the online lessons immediately.

Step 2: Complete the First 6 Hours & Take the Permit Test

After the first six hours, the teen becomes eligible for a learner’s permit.

Step 3: Apply for Your Texas Learner’s Permit

Follow our simple DPS guide — we provide all instructions.

Step 4: Finish the Online Classroom

The student will continue to finish the online classroom hours until they have obtained the final certificate of completion that transfers them to the school of your choice to do the driving training. *Most driving schools require the transfer certificate before they will allow the student to do in car training

Step 5: Find a Driving School

Locate the local driving school in your area to sign up with for the in car training, 

Step 6: Complete Behind-the-Wheel Training With Certified Instructors& Prepare for the DPS Driving T

The driving school will complete all the in-car training the student will need. Once the student has completed the in-car training requirements you will then be ready to take the road test to get your license! 

Step 7: Take the Road Test

After completing all requirements, your teen schedules a DPS driving test.

FAQ's for Self-Paced Drivers Ed

Yes! You must choose any state-approved driving school. We transfer your teen’s records for you.


Yes, the online course is fully TDLR-approved and DPS-accepted.


No. A certified driving instructor teaches all in-car lessons.

However, the parent is responsible for the 30 hours of logged drive time no matter what style of driver's ed a teen chooses. (Including 10 night time driving hours.)


The student has access to the course material for a full year. (12 months) Students can work at their own pace and have plenty of time to finish.

Course extensions are available if needed. Once a course has been extended, all of the student's course work will resume where they left off. 


Yes, the entire course is mobile friendly.
